As part of installer, i am calling a .msi installer that sets up the SQL Express database. This .msi will terminate if SQLExpress is not already installed. In that case, I want to cancel the installation and rollback the changes done to the system so far.

Please advice how to achieve this.

Instead of rolling back the installation if the process fails because of SQL Express not being installed, I would recommend checking it in the <preInstallationActionList>. You can find some instructions on how to check it from the registry here

I have now added the installation check as part of <preinstallationactionlist>.

The MSI will only set up the database for our product. I want to rollback the installation if the MSI crashes. How do I handle this ?
