Is there a way to detect current installation mode (GUI, text, unattended) and set special actions in the installation based on the current mode. For example, I may not want some actions to be performed if it is unattended installation.

You can use the installer_ui, installer_ui_detail and installer_interactivity built-in variables. In your case, you could use:

<showInfo text="This is not unattended!" >
    <ruleList>
        <compareText text="${installer_ui}" logic="does_not_equal" value="unattended"/>
    </ruleList>
</showInfo>

You can find additional information here.
