I am trying to optionally install a separate component and wanted to put all of the code into a separate xml file. To install this component I need to: 1. run a program to determine if this component is already installed and configured 2. ask the user if they want to install this component 3. prompt the user to enter a port number 4. run the component's installer 5. run a program to configure its port

As I see it, this is a combination of actions (running programs) and parameters. But the included file requires a single *List parent node - and actionList does not allow any parameter nodes. I tried to make the included file a component, but was not able to add actions to the component.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

As you mention, you can include an external file containing a component. Why wasn't you able to add actions to the component? Did you get any error?
