When using <desktopShortcutList>, the icons show up after installation correctly on Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2, but sometimes they do not show up immediately on Windows Vista or Windows 2008.

The installation log has the Creating Desktop Shortcut for (...) message.

The icon shows up correctly after system is restarted.

The issue is related to a known bug in Windows Vista that also affects Windows 2008. It is described in more details in the following websites:

http://www.watchingthenet.com/fix-windows-vista-desktop-not-refreshing-or-updating-properly.html

Microsoft Support KB932406

Also, please note that right-clicking on desktop and choosing Refresh resolves this.
